Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

Welcome to Laptop Lifeline — where we fix your tech headaches without giving you new ones.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, protect, and (mostly) don't share your information. We keep things simple, transparent, and secure — because nobody has time for shady nonsense.

If you're here reading a privacy policy voluntarily, just know: we admire your commitment to adulthood.

1 Information We Collect

A. Information You Give Us (aka: what you type into the contact form)

When you fill out the contact form, you may share:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your message (whatever you typed — we don't collect psychic data… yet)

That's it. No secret tracking, no hidden surveys, no weird pop-up quizzes about your favorite sandwich.

B. Payment Information

  • If you hire us, payments are securely processed through Stripe.
  • We never see your full card number, security code, or billing info.
  • Stripe handles that with encryption, firewalls, and probably a team of cyber-ninjas.

C. Optional Analytics

We may use Google Analytics occasionally to understand things like:

  • How many people visit
  • What pages they look at
  • Whether the site is more interesting than TikTok (unlikely)

Analytics is standard across the internet, and it never reveals anything personal like your identity or private details.

2 How We Use Your Information

We use the information you share to:

  • Respond to your message
  • Provide services you request
  • Improve the website
  • Keep business running smoothly (coffee helps too)

We do not sell, trade, or hand out your information like free samples.
We're here to fix laptops — not ruin lives.

3 Why Your Data Is Safe With Us

We protect your information using secure systems and industry-standard precautions. In short:

  • Your contact info stays private
  • Your payment info is handled by Stripe
  • We don't store anything unnecessary
  • We're not interested in becoming a data-hoarding tech giant

We also comply with US privacy laws and make reasonable efforts to respect California privacy requirements (CCPA), including letting California residents request access or deletion of personal data we may have.

4 When We Might Share Information

"Share" is a strong word — we barely do it.

We only share information when:

  • A service provider (like Stripe) needs it to do their job
  • A law requires it (rare, but possible)
  • You specifically ask us to

Otherwise, your data stays between you and us. Think of us like a vault… without the lasers and dramatic spy music.

5 Cookies & Tracking

If we use cookies, it will only be for normal website things — not to follow you around the internet or psychoanalyze your search history.

You can disable cookies anytime through your browser settings.

6 Your Choices & Rights

Depending on where you live (looking at you, California), you may have the right to:

  • Request access to your data
  • Ask us to delete it
  • Correct it
  • Complain about it (we'll listen, we promise)

Just reach out through the contact page and we'll handle it quickly.

7 Children's Privacy

We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13.

If your kid somehow contacts us, we'll delete the info and encourage them to go enjoy being a kid.

8 Changes to This Policy

If we update this policy, we'll post the new version right here.

No secret updates. No plot twists.

10 Limited Service Warranty

Our Guarantee for Windows Laptops

We stand behind our service with a money-back guarantee for Windows laptops that meet these requirements:

Computer Must Power On

  • Must have a standard USB port or CD drive
  • Must be fully functional
  • Note: If keyboard doesn't work, we can still make an attempt with a 75% success rate

Compatible Charger Required

Your laptop must be supplied with a working, compatible charger

Not BIOS-Locked

Your laptop must not be BIOS-locked (also called "firmware locked").

Good News: Most Laptops Aren't BIOS-Locked!

What's a BIOS lock? It's a password set at the deepest level of your computer (the BIOS/UEFI firmware). This is extremely rare and only happens when:

  • Someone specifically entered the BIOS setup during startup and manually set a supervisor/admin password
  • A corporate IT department locked down the device for security
  • The laptop was reported lost or stolen and remotely locked

If you're locked out of Windows but never saw technical setup screens or worked in IT, you almost certainly just have a regular Windows user lock — and we can absolutely help with that!

Not sure? Contact us! We can help you determine if you have a BIOS lock (rare) or just a Windows lock (common and fixable).

User-Locked Only

The laptop must only have a Windows user password lock (the most common type of lock)

Our Promise:

If your Windows laptop meets all the requirements above and we can't unlock it, we'll refund your full service payment (shipping costs excluded) and we'll return your laptop. No questions asked. (This has never happened so far, by the way!)

This warranty applies specifically to the unlocking service for Windows laptops meeting the stated criteria. Other services may have different terms.
